Our entire Keller Williams office in Elk Grove moved to our brand new building recently... and we thought it would be a good time to celebrate!

Elk Grove residents are encouraged to join the Elk Grove Police Department for their upcoming Citizens' Academy starting on February 10th!

The Citizens' Academy is a sixteen week program designed to inform and teach interested residents about the various aspects of municipal policing. The program covers procedures from patrol and investigations, vehicle operations, arrest and control techniques, 911 communications, code enforcement and animal control.

According to Jason Jacobo, this course is great for Elk Grove residents who want to learn more about how the Elk Grove Police department works to keep us all safe!

The Citizens' Academy meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Elk Grove Police Department.

In order to attend the next Citizens' Academy participants must be at least 18 years of age, live or work in Elk Grove, and have no felony convictions (a background check will be completed on all applicants before entering the Citizens' Academy).

10th Anniversary Time Capsule Project in Elk Grove

The city of Elk Grove is commemorating their first 10 years of Cityhood!

Named the first city in California to incorporate in the 21st century, the City of Elk Grove has brought forth a new local government with newfound independence. Since the City incorporated in July 2000, Elk Grove has blossomed with new businesses, residents, employment opportunities and amenities such as a new locally-controlled police department, animal care service unit and a first-rate public transportation system.

In July 2010, the City of Elk Grove celebrates its 10th anniversary of cityhood. 

The Elk Grove Historical Society sponsors the Time Capsule project. Among the agencies supporting the effort is the Elk Grove Old Town Foundation.

Join members of the community as they unveil the Elk Grove Time Capsule Project for the very first time. The Elk Grove Time Capsule Project will capture the City's historic presence over the past 10 years of cityhood.

Spay Day Elk Grove 2010 is on February 28th - Is your Elk Grove pet neutered? 

On February 28, nearly 1,000 pets belonging to families in need in Elk Grove, Sacramento, Yolo and Placer Counties will receive low-cost spay/neuter surgery.

Households in Sacramento, Yolo and Placer Counties earning $35,000 a year or less can get their pet neutered at a extremely cost effect price. Cats cost $15 and dogs cost $20! I called my local Elk Grove veterinarian... Bradshaw Vet and they said the normal cost was around $195 for a dog and $121 for a cat. So that is a significant reduction in the price!

Not only do participants of Elk Grove Spay Day 2010 get reduced fees for neutering, their pets will receive their core vaccinations, microchip with registration, dose of flea preventative! Wow!

There is a catch though...

In order to qualify for this reduced price, households in Elk Grove need to earn no more that $35,000 a year! If you meet this qualification, you are able to get up to 2 cats or 2 dogs treated.

This event is organized for the last 11 years by the Sacramento Area Animal Coalition(SAAC), a nonprofit organization committed to eliminating pet overpopulation in the Sacramento area through aggressive spay/neuter efforts.

If you qualify....

Starting on Saturday, January 23, pet owners in Elk Grove can request an appointment to have their pets spayed or neutered at a deep discount as part of Spay Day Elk Grove 2010. Appointments are required and must be made in advance starting on January 23 by calling (916) 808-SPAY [7729].

All surgeries will occur on Sunday, February 28 and cash payment is required at time of appointment. Demand for this event is high and appointments fill up fast, so eligible pet owners should call early.

Did you know the Census is coming to Elk Grove in March of this year?

So what is the Census?
The U.S. Census counts every resident (citizens and non-citizens) and is required to take place every 10 years per our Constitution.

How does it work?
Every Elk Grove resident will receive a Census form by mail soon after March 1st to their home. This form will contain 10 questions you will need to answer and mail back.

If you forget to return it with the postage paid envelope, be prepared for a visit by a Census Taker. The Elk Grove Census Taker's job is to track down all Elk Grove residents who did not mail in their form and visit their home to follow-up. If you forgot to mail your paperwork, expect a series of visits between April - July from area volunteers.

Your information is not shared and is used to the Elk Grove community receive federal funds each year for things like:

• Hospitals
• Job training centers
• Schools
• Senior centers
• Bridges, tunnels and other-public works projects
• Emergency services

The data collected by the census will also help determine the number of seats California has in the U.S. House of Representatives.
