Goodbye Internet Explorer… Hello Firefox!

FirefoxGoodbye Internet Explorer Hello Firefox!

I have been putting off this project for a while now.

It was easy to put it off let me tell you! I am the kind of person who wants her questions answered... yesterday. So the thought of fumbling through a browser that did not have the bookmarks set up or the passwords I needed… this particular project took a while to get to the top of the list!

My biggest reason for the change? I made a big mistake and upgraded to Internet 8. Many websites were not compatible with this upgrade and when it came time to order something online or completing a form… I always had issues. In fact, I have to admit, I probably wasted several hours on technical support lines trying to access or order something online. Most of the time it was issues with my browser.

Looking back on it now ... I probably lost several hours of productivity, because I did not want to invest a little time to make the switch.

Why the heck did I put this project off again?

Here are the best reasons why I am happy I made the change:

1. I had no idea how much faster my pages would load by changing browsers!
All this time, I thought it was my wireless Internet connection or my poor little lap top I use at night when I blog was to blame. I had no idea it could have been my browser. I was shocked at the difference let me tell you!

2. Firefox will highlight misspelled words in any form field!
Maybe Internet Explorer can do this and I just don’t know how to access the feature... but Firefox will! For someone who does not embrace her inner Spelling Bee Champion... this a must needed tool for me!

3. When a virus attacked my computer… Firefox was the only one left standing!
When I needed to access the Internet to fix my issues, the virus managed to block Internet Explorer, so I could not access the download I needed. I decided to take a shot and try Firefox and it worked like a charm!

It was easy to import my bookmarks and I am converting all my passwords over to a new online system... so I am off and running.

I am glad that I made the move and I am not going back!

Taking the time to fine tune your systems can make more of an impact than you might think! What project do you have on your list that could save you some time or money?

What a nightmare! My first crashed hard drive

Lucky me!

I came in this morning as usual after our morning team meeting to find my computer screen frozen.

No big deal right?  I will just reboot while I update my to do list for the day and everything will be great.  If only that were the case.  After 10 or so attempts to reboot my computer, I realized that I needed to call Dell and find out what was going on.

Well... Looks like my hard drive crashed on my brand new computer!  What! The oh so caring individual at Dell's customer service didn't seem to be sympathetic to my problem.  He dropped this bomb on me like it was no big deal!  No big deal?  I have a business to run here!

He could care less that I had just paid my computer guy (almost as much as I paid for the darn computer) to come in and install all of my software, transfer the data from my old machine and get the network set up.  They did not even care that I could have lost every file in the computer if it were not for my wonderful tech guy who convinced me that I needed a beefier external drive.

It is funny because I was just thinking customer service was the reason I bought my computer from Dell. How ironic!

So I am stuck for the next 2 business days without access to our database or my files until the new hard drive is delivered and installed.

I am trying to stay positive about the whole thing... but have you ever had 2 days with no computer?

There ought to be a law!  If I bought a car and it blew up the same month I bought it, I am sure the dealership would offer me a loaner and get the problem resolved quickly.

Not Dell, they are sending me the part with instructions and wished me luck on the repair.  Now for some, replacing a hard drive might not be a big deal.  For me, it is like that dealership handing me a part to the car and asking me to fix it myself.

So tomorrow I am going to try and make lemonade out of the big fat lemon that Dell sold me! I am going to take some time and do all those tasks that I tend to put off like going through the box of to read stuff I have squirreled away for that day when I get a chance to review it!  Looks like tomorrow is the day!  Thank goodness I have our new video station we set-up that has internet access!

There ought to be a law!  You sell me a lemon, you should pay to make it right.  That is only fair ..right?
