Lucky me!
I came in this morning as usual after our morning team meeting to find my computer screen frozen.
No big deal right? I will just reboot while I update my to do list for the day and everything will be great. If only that were the case. After 10 or so attempts to reboot my computer, I realized that I needed to call Dell and find out what was going on.
Well... Looks like my hard drive crashed on my brand new computer! What! The oh so caring individual at Dell's customer service didn't seem to be sympathetic to my problem. He dropped this bomb on me like it was no big deal! No big deal? I have a business to run here!
He could care less that I had just paid my computer guy (almost as much as I paid for the darn computer) to come in and install all of my software, transfer the data from my old machine and get the network set up. They did not even care that I could have lost every file in the computer if it were not for my wonderful tech guy who convinced me that I needed a beefier external drive.
It is funny because I was just thinking customer service was the reason I bought my computer from Dell. How ironic!
So I am stuck for the next 2 business days without access to our database or my files until the new hard drive is delivered and installed.
I am trying to stay positive about the whole thing... but have you ever had 2 days with no computer?
There ought to be a law! If I bought a car and it blew up the same month I bought it, I am sure the dealership would offer me a loaner and get the problem resolved quickly.
Not Dell, they are sending me the part with instructions and wished me luck on the repair. Now for some, replacing a hard drive might not be a big deal. For me, it is like that dealership handing me a part to the car and asking me to fix it myself.
So tomorrow I am going to try and make lemonade out of the big fat lemon that Dell sold me! I am going to take some time and do all those tasks that I tend to put off like going through the box of to read stuff I have squirreled away for that day when I get a chance to review it! Looks like tomorrow is the day! Thank goodness I have our new video station we set-up that has internet access!
There ought to be a law! You sell me a lemon, you should pay to make it right. That is only fair ..right?
